What makes unopened action figures more valuable?
I’m an avid Halo collector and I have 15 figures in total. That may not sound like alot but they are all special editions and exclusives like the Green Grunt and Halo 2 series active camoflouge Master Chief. I also have many of the Comic Con exclusives like Recon Griffball.
Anyways I see other peoples collections that also have some of the same rarities I do and they are all opened! I keep all of mine sealed and unopened. Collectors aren’t suppose to open their pieces. So please tell me why unopened figures are more valuable than the opened?
I have been a action figure collector for more than a decade now. I collect DC and Marvel action figures, DC Direct Statues and movie action figures from Hot Toys and other toy manufacturers. Most collectors would like to get action figures MINT ON CARD as much as possible not only for display purposes but also for aesthetic reasons, it is more presentable and appealing.
The reason behind action figures becoming more expensive if they are left unopened is that collectors or people value things in their pristine or original form or packaging. Not only is it more collectible it also creates the notion that this item has been taken care of very well, similar to art work or comic books in mint condition. Thus action figure prices in their packaging that are in good condition are valued higher than opened action figures.
You should also consider the quality or the state of the box or card of the action figure. If the packaging is dilapidated or deformed chances are the value of the item is significantly diminished. I hope this helps you out coming from one collector to another.
