Playing with earplugs – Is loosing your hearing considered metal?
You’ve read the title and your thinking -’music is supposed to be loud in the first place! yup- rock and metal is meant to be very loud -enough so it breaks the neightbours glasses just through the sheer volume. So we cant have it loud AND protect our hearing at the same time? Without ear plugs, it will mean that by the time were becoming thirty and forty we will be loosing our hearing. Id like to have my hearing so that when i get into old age i can still listen and play the music i love. ‘What? thats not a very rock attitude at all’ -neithers not being able to hear the music you love, or being able to talk to people. I known alot of people who are on the verge of loosing their hearing now in one ear -so when it all goes the only option will be a hearing aid. We’ve all lost some hearing -mine isnt perfect after years of subjecting it to Kataklysm and My dying bride.
Many performers are using ear plugs anyway, half the time their hair is hiding the earplugs from view – so if they can protect their hearing why cant you? you shouldnt be worried about what everyone else thinks- If they want to go completely deaf in a few years time then let them. And if you want a career in music the more you look after your hearing the longer you actually get to play it- because its quite hard to continue once your deaf -ask Beethoven.
Whose going to know that your using earplugs during band rehearsal anyway? The other three, four or five members of your band, who are probably using ear plugs to. Seems more than just you are worried about hearing loss- plus itll only take a minute to put them in.
And earplugs are just another reason to crank the amps up? Need some hearing protection or digital hearing aids
