If The 2012 Election Were Held Today Ð Who Would Win?
With the fact that the {2012 election} for the Presidency is about a little over a year away, itÕs time to look at the volatile pack of Conservatives trying to be candidates who might attempt to defeat {President Obama}.
{Mitt Romney} looks more and more like a favorite for the {2012 election} . Once a popular Massachusetts governor and 08 Presidential hopeful, {Mitt Romney} at the age of 63 continues to be youthful, smart and quick-witted, and brings an extraordinary background to bear. As far as the downside, his Mormon faith plus the Massachusetts health care law (which is much like {President Obama}’s unpopular health reform plan) might turn off enough voters away from Romney and to President ObamaÕs side.
{Sarah Palin} burst on the political landscape in 2008 as John McCain’s running mate, and while she did an amazing job in firing up the GOP faithful, she also made a whole variety of now famous gaffes. Unfortunately for the McCain campaign, these gaffes are tough to forget or to marginalize, and far like Dan Quayle 20 years before her time, {Sarah Palin} found herself branded, perhaps unfairly, for being stupid and not at all of a Presidential caliber. The fact that she quit her Alaska GovernorÕs job halfway through her term also doesnÕt say much to voters about her dedication to holding and performing the duties of a higher office. Overall, that sheÕll make a run for the 2012 election cycle seems less and less likely.
Mike Huckabee is another popular prospective candidate from the right for the upcoming {2012 election}. This former AR governor and yet another 2008 candidate that didn’t receive enough primary votes to win the partyÕs nomination, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for a long time over the course of the 2008 campaign, without same war chest some of the other candidates enjoyed that year. The host of a show on FOX News, Huckabee remains favored by the GOP base and he has demonstrated his capability to run a highly effective campaign. Successful fundraising may be the key for a Huckabee Presidential run.
Newt Gingrich has become a GOP mainstay for upwards of 2 decades and beyond, perhaps most notably during his tenure of Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Clinton Administration. Seen as an visionary, well-educated and goal-minded, Gingrich’s personal life has become somewhat marred by a few extra-marital affairs and divorces in addition to his polarizing status with the general populace. However, Newt Gingrich is also a skilled grassroots organizer even though he’s never run for President, his candidacy is certainly looking more and more of a sure bet.
{Ron Paul}, now at the age of 75, is the oldest of all of the likely {2012 election} candidates, but heÕs got experience that many of the others donÕt since heÕs run for president before, as a Libertarian in 1988 and another time as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, a number of {Ron Paul}’s views arenÕt at all palatable for moderate Republicans. On top of that, some of his supporters are so rabid and active that they are more intimidating than helpful to the campaign.
ItÕs definitely still to far ahead of time to be able to say with confidence the persona who will emerge as the conservative selection for the {2012 election}. Still, it should prove to be a unique election season no doubt.
