i’m trying to get good photos with one sb 900 flash. not bouncing, direct flash?
i have a d80 and a sb 900 and i have to do a skateboarding photoshoot in a few days
how can i flash the subject directly without killing all the color. i’d also like the flash to black out the background and only light the foreground like in many pictures. i’m going to be using a 10.5 fisheye and the 18-200.
what settings should i use on my camera and flash?

Well you can call the Nikon help line 800.NIKON-UX.
They may tell you that you are expecting results that cannot be expected. There is something called the inverse law rule that explains how light falls off inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the flash to the subject. Objects in front of the subject will be over exposed and those beyond it will be under exposed.
There is no single flash that will cover the 180 degree view of a fisheye lens. The shot on the link is well lit and the colour does not look like it was killed.
The settings are to shoot at a high enough shutter speed to “stop” the action. Giving out settings are really not appropriate, since we have no idea of the lighting is in your shooting site. You have the camera with a light meter and control over the ISO settings you are using as well as the power settings on your SB900. Go for it.
