Force Duke

Do state laws supercede the laws of a University?
I’m entering Duke University but I live in MN. One of the issues I’m having is getting credit for some math courses I took at the University of MN. Duke has a policy that if a student takes classes at a different university and those classes count for high school credit then those credits cannot be accepted. However, MN State Statute 120B.14 requires high schools to give credit for any work done by students in higher educational facilities. So, is there any way I can force Duke given this state law to give me credit even though it violates their rules?
The statute to which you refer requires the HS to accept the credits from the university. It does not require a university to accept credits from a high school. Additionally, because Duke is not in Minnesota and is a private institution, a Minnesota statute would not apply even if it did say what you believed it to say.

Duke Sucks $9.99 In the ranks of college basketball, Duke is like something scraped off the bottom of a shoe. It’s like a nasty virus you catch from a door handle at a public toilet. No team is as uniquely hated as those smug, entitled, floor-slapping, fist-pumping, insufferable Blue Devils. The loathing has almost reached the level of a religion. Christian Laettner is a punk. Amen. The Cameron Crazies are obnoxious. The Plumlees are worthless times three. Coach K is a jerk. Kumbaya. The team is dogged by an intense hatred that no other team can match—and for good reason. Millions of basketball fans around the world are not imagining things. Duke really is evil, and within the pages of Duke Sucks , Reed Tucker and Andy Bagwell show readers exactly why Duke deserves to be so detested. They bruise and batter the Blue Devils with fact after fact, story after story, statistic after statistic. They build an airtight case that could stand up in a court of law. So sit back, and in true Duke fashion, force someone poorer than you to do your work as you crack open the ultimate guide to Duke suckitude. |

Basil Wilson Duke, CSA $39.95 After practicing law for several years in St. Louis, Basil Wilson Duke (1838–1916) enlisted in the Confederate army in 1861 and was elected first lieutenant of John Hunt Morgan’s legendary cavalry unit. As second in command, he was, Morgan recorded, “wise in counsel, gallant in the field,” and always “the right man in the right place.” Duke was twice wounded in battle and was captured during Morgan’s Great Raid and held prisoner for over a year. When Morgan, who was also Duke’s brother-in-law, was killed in 1864, Duke was promoted to brigadier general and appointed commander of Morgan’s men. Moving to join forces with those of Gen. Joseph E. Johnston’s army in North Carolina, he was assigned to the force escorting Jefferson Davis in his retreat from Richmond at the close of the war. Duke later opened a law office in Louisville and was elected as a Democrat to the Kentucky House, where he served until 1870. He was counsel and chief lobbyist for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad for over twenty years and a founder of the Filson Historical Society in Louisville. An avid amateur historian, Duke published several books, including A History of Morgan’s Cavalry. Basil Wilson Duke, CSA, the definitive biography of this important but often overlooked figure in Civil War history, establishes that Duke was in fact the brilliant tactician behind much of the success of Morgan’s cavalry. Author Gary Robert Matthews not only offers an in-depth study of Duke’s celebrated Civil War exploits but also traces his varied postwar literary, legal, and political careers. |
