Internet Fundraiser Sees To Detroit RoboCop Statue Getting Constructed
Some significant internet attention has been focused on a proposed Detroit RoboCop sculpture. After the Mayor of Detroit, Dave Bing, made it clear the city was not going to put up a statue of the fictional RoboCop figure, some private individuals decided to take it on them-selves to make the statue a reality. RoboCop sculpture won’t happen in Detroit, mayor states
Individuals were being brought to the Detroit city government with an internet campaign. It asked for ideas on how to improve the city. Building a statue of the “RoboCop” science fiction series main character was a suggestion that would improve aesthetics in Detroit which several started to like, reports MSNBC. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing took to Twitter and informed the world the city would certainly not be building a sculpture of RoboCop, or at least the town government was not going to have anything to do with it.
Citizens liked the concept
The town government would never build a RoboCop statue with tax dollars which Mayor Bing made clear. The citizens decided to do something though. The website KickStarter started to get involved in what was going on. This was after a Facebook page was made called “Build a statue of RoboCop in Detroit.” People are able to pledge money to nonprofit and for-profit causes for instance “Detroit Needs a RoboCop Statue” with KickStarter. So far, the site has raised more than $59,000, beyond the $50,000 goal that was set to build the sculpture.
Largest monetary gift gives nod to ‘RoboCop’ series
The largest monetary gift to the “Detroit Needs a RoboCop Statue” campaign was a $25,000 monetary gift from Pete Hottlett of the business Omni Consumer Products Corporation. The “Omni Consumer Products Corp.” makes the “RoboCop.” This is in the “RoboCop” series. The real Omni Consumer Products Corp. adopted the name on purpose while making goods from movies right now. Right now, Omni makes the “Ghostbusters” “Stay Puft Marshmallows,” the “Idiocracy” “Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator” as well as the “True Blood” “Tru Blood drink.”
