Is Van Guard Star Fund a good stock?
Is it a good steady mutual fund ( i think that is what it is) will u loose lots of money with it?
You need to be aware of the fact that the mix of stocks, bonds, and cash your portfolio has determines your risks and rewards.
The more cash and bonds you invest in, the less likely you’ll lose any money, but you will not see huge gains either.
If you invest all in stocks, you are much more likely to lose money, but you can also see some huge gains.

The asset alocation for the Star fun has changed a bit in the last few years, but traditionally it has been about 60% stocks and 40% bonds and short term instruments.
Historically, it has held its own in its catagory with slightly better than average returns for this type of fund.
If you are looking for anything much shorter than 10 years, I’d maybe consider a different fund more heavilty weighted toward cash and bonds. If you are looking a longer term investment, then this is a pretty good fund. It has good returns and very low costs.
I invest in this fund and have done well considering the market the last few years. I highly recommend Vanguard, especially thier index funds. They may not always be the highest performers, but they hold thier own and they are cheap to own.
