Basebal and Roids – Not A Light Matter
Baseball today is not only a sport. For some people it’s a way of life. The likes of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Yogi Berra are the few iconic figures that established this game. Children and adults alike love and enjoy this game. Baseball happens to be one of the most famous and sought after sports in the world.
Presently baseball is being attacked by the use of illegal substances or steroid in the game. Major League Baseball or the MLB is undergoing difficulties in stopping the use of performance enhancers in the sport. They devised a plan to test players in search for traces of this substance. In addition MLB will schedule such exams in a random manner to eradicate the chances of cheating.
Steroids also called as performance enhancers, illegal substance, and they improve a person’s ability to increase abilities and develop an athletes figure. Uses of these substances are most common in sports and body building. The advantages of these drugs are amplified muscle growth, strength, and stamina. There is the possibility of development in the athletes’ skills and alertness.
There are also some disadvantages in using steroids. They may lead to substance abuse that will soon promote uninhibited anger. Side effects like Insomnia, delusions, hair loss, vertigo, urinary and kidney problems are some of the continuous and severe problems with the improper use of steroids. It can also increase the risks of having cancer and heart diseases. Steroids can stay in the body for a very long time between a few of days, and may also take a year or so if used aggressively.
These substances are greatly utilized by baseball players to perform well in their game. Some say batters can hit the ball consistently from the use of steroids that enhances there sight. More than 70% of ball players are believed to be using substances or steroids. There are certain situations that these drugs are found in the personal belongings of an athlete, and were consumed regularly. It is no shock to know that these ball players are so reliant of these hypes.
Historically, the first evidence of the use of this substance was in a popular sports event for a body building contest in the 50’s. The last sports organization that reacted to eliminate the use of this substance was the MLB. It was acted upon immediately when the organization discovered traces of prohormones and Androstendione substance in a ball players’ food supplement. Ever since the discovery the MLB crafted a policy that will severely abolish performance enhancers in the league. Presently some baseball players are still testing positive with traces of these drugs in their system.
The problem at hand is concerning the reputation of the Institution along with the high standard of its status in the society. The unjust acts of the baseball players in the sport diminish their characters as role models to the people. The MLB must prove there dedication in implementing action against these illegal substances. The ball players should demonstrate fair practices in the sport and provide
cooperation to the league. They must learn that the only answer for a great performance is excellent training and good exercise
