Nib Starting
Calligraphy pen problems. Help?
I recently bought a dipping Calligraphy pen and a nib.
The nib started out working but now it’s not. So I bought a new one.
The first one just stopped flowing. If I tap it and do circular shapes at a 45 degree angle just a little bit comes out.
The new one is a bit wider and when I put it down to write with it all comes flowing out at top speed.
I end up either with really really light amounts of ink for every second letter or one big letter shaped glob of ink.
What am I doing wrong?
I usually use the cartridge style pens.
I was given some dipping ink and decided to buy the nibs and pen.
Already given great suggestions… the placement of the little clip (reservoir) adjusts the flow of the ink. Move up/down to get it working for you.
Also… nibs are coated with a light film of oil or other preservative. Ink does not like it. So, use an old soft toothbrush and some gentle soap, windex or non-abrasive toothpaste to clean the nib. rinse. dry and works better. Do this with every new nib—and clean/dry after use too.
Higgins eternal is a good student-grade ink that works on most paper w/o gumming up pen/nib. Might try soaking old nib in some windex or alcohol to clean—may work again!
