X-Men Origins: Wolverine: A film tie-in game that will blow your geeky mind
Despite the hit Marvel film X-men Origins: Wolverine getting something of a lackluster critical nod (not forgetting a whole lot of derision on the part of the Wolverine diehards), the official Wolverine video game looks like it could almost be the most awesome comic book hero feature film game in a ludicrously long time. While fans watch the film juggling with continuity too much for some fans, the developers of the official X-men Origins: Wolverine movie video game have faced the challenge to get hold of the original material and create something great out of the chaotic mix of a film. They’ve done a pretty good job, too. The fruits of their labours are there for you all to enjoy for yourself in the new Wolverine video game on the Playstation 3, Xbox and Nintendo Wii.
A Wolverine video game has never really been able to recreate those unique characteristics that countless comic book enthusiasts have loved for many years. However, the brand new X-men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to hit the spot, which is none too shabby seeing as the movie itself seems to have been a huge creative disaster. This could be a very rare happening indeed- a licensed video game that is actually better than the film it is based on.
The first thing you’ll probably notice is the intense combat system that the game offers. It does capture some of the nail-biting action that being the Wolverine character would allow you. His healing factor adds another dimension to events too, and it is great to see a mainstay of his comic book and film persona done so well by the Wolverine video game writers. Logan’s powers in this licensed Wolverine video game constantly heal as you receive injuries, but you’ll need to take cover and rejuvenate if your health reaches a dangerous level.
With ever more fearsome villains to come up against throughout the game, it becomes a more and more intense experience the more you work at it. Boasting awesome visuals and audio, it does hurl you into the midst of the adventure, and with so many X-Men comic characters turning up throughout this Wolverine video game, there is plenty to keep Wolverine fans excited. Another great feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s mutant senses by using the control pad, letting you spot enemies, doors and more that you possibly otherwise miss.
As an overall package, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a resounding success, giving you all the thrills of the Wolverine film with added characteristics that the movie lacks. With awesome, beautiful graphics and powerful sound design, the game really gets you into the character and his famous berserker rage, and is a more than welcome addition to the list of Marvel movies tie-in games.
