Both websites are merely online distributors. They’re basically just middlemen and they charge a small to medium price markup for their items. As far as the particular knives you’re looking at, the first is passable the second is complete junk. If you really care about quality you should buy a name-brand knife such as Benchmade.
The “cobra” claims to be made in the USA, (might possibly be untrue.) But that’s worth something if they claim it’s true. It says it’s made of 1065 which is plain carbon, non-stainless. 1065 is actually a reasonably good material but a lot depends on the quality of the heat treatment process. !065 is very durable and can withstand quite a lot of abuse. Note that it will rust readily if you get it wet.
The “regal” is boldly stamped “440 stainless” on the hilt. The fact that the manufacturers left out the “C” at the end indicates it’s likely the inferior SAE grade 440A, rather than SAE 440C which is harder, stronger and performs much better, (440C is also twice as expensive.) Note that there are three sub-grades of SAE type 440 stainless steel. Namely 440A, 440B, and 440C…….. 440A is the cheapest and has the lowest carbon and chromium content. 440A is better suited to making springs and ball bearing races than knives, it’s edge holding properties are modest at best. Knives of passable quality are made of 440C. Bargain-basement no-name knives are made of 440A.
If you have any more doubts about it’s poor quality take a look at the enlarged image of the hilt. Check out the off-center misalignment of the screw holes. Also, read the description “We recommend often use of Loc-Tite to keep your knife in top condition, but we won’t be held responsible for stripped screws ”
In other words, the screws have a tendency to fall out…..I’m trying to repress my laughter here. What a piece of junk.
