Series Die
Has anyone but me ever gotten seriously depressed when their favorite character in a series dies?
I mean, I get waaay to into what I read. I don’t just mean “felt sad” when they died, I mean like literally start crying and wish that they didn’t die, and being to sad to keep reading. How many times has this happened to you? Here’s a list of when it’s happened to me: (SPOILER ALERT FOR SOME BOOKS! HARRY POTTER, DUNE, MARTIN THE WARRIOR) When Dumbledore died in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, when Rose died in Martin the Warrior, and when Paul (or Muad’Dib, or Usul, or whatever the heck his real name was) died. Oh my gosh I was devastated, and those three do NOT include the times a character died and was subsequently brought back to life!!!
This could just be me, but that sounds seriously unhealthy.
I mean, yes, I’ve cried (a decent bit) at the deaths of characters in books, but I didn’t stop reading or get “seriously depressed” for any length of time. I cried, I was disappointed, I got over it. Actually, wait…I’ve only ever cried once merely because a character died; it’s the reactions of the other characters that makes me teary.
Maybe it’s just because I don’t find death depressing….
