Soldier Action Figure
Are today’s kids toys too PC? ?
Yesterday I saw WW2 German soldier action figure with no Nazi or even Wehrmacht insignia on the uniform, but when I was a kid in the 80′s I had an SS Action man, complete with SS insignia and swastikas. What gives, are today’s toymakers just total wimps, don’t they want kids to know history, and have credible ‘bad guys’ to play with?
I don’t know, but I just bought my son a vintage set of army men, complete with 10 green US army guys, 10 red Russian army guys, and 2 flags (1 USA and 1 Russia). The package said something like “create your own battle scenes between our American men and the Red Menace!” I thought that was totally cool. You would never see a package like that now.
As far as your nazi figure…it’s probably a generational thing. You and I can say it should be historically accurate, but if you asked my mom (age 70) the nazi swastika is just so, so offensive. We’re not Jewish or anything, but to people of that generation, it’s just too much of a reminder of pure evil.
