What’s your opinion about the name Megadeth?
I think that it’s really really stupid. Why would you name your band mega death??? I have nothing with the band, they have really cute songs, but the name…arghhhhh it’s horrid. It seems like it was given by my eight years old little brother, who plays not the guitar, but with his Transformers Megatron.
Being a big Megadeth fan myself, I can say that the name does sound a bit childish. You’re somewhat on the mark with the “Transformers” comment, considering Megadeth is a Thrash-metal band formed in the 1980′s, the name does have somewhat of a G.I. Joe/Transformers vibe to it.
The name refers to a mass death term used in nuclear extinction. The prefix, mega, refers to “millions”, like megabyte. Death, (or in this case Deth), means death, of course. Together it represents the possible “millions dead” from a nuclear holocaust; a legitimate fear in cold-war era 1980′s United States.
Goofy name aside, Megadeth has put out some of the best metal albums of all-time like, “Rust In Piece”, “Countdown To Extinction”, and “Peace Sells …But Who’s Buying?”. Give them a listen if you’ve never done so.
